This page works towards a partial statement of the African Youth Leadership Study research team's politics of knowledge production as they pertain to this project. We ask you review this and use the AYLS accordingly.

 
 

 

Terms of Use

The use of this website and its data signifies your agreement to the following terms and conditions.

Defintions

Within this section:

  • "AYLS" refers to the The African Youth Leadership Study, conducted by the research team and led by Dr. Krystal Strong. This includes the data, papers, codebook, auxiliary materials such as maps, and the web interface for accessing these materials.

  • "YLFD" refers to Youth Leadership for Development, the conceptual framework developed by Krystal Strong and Christiana Kallon naming a convergence of education initiatives targeting African Youth in the contemporary moment.

  • "USER" refers to the individual or group who accesses the data, codebook, auxiliary materials such as maps, and the web interface for accessing the data.

  • "the AYLS research team" refers to Dr. Krystal Strong, the individuals involved in this data's collection, assembly, and publication, and their collective and individual labor, as named on the Research Team page of this website.

Usage Rights

Pursuant to this agreement, AYLS grants the USER the non-exclusive, non-guaranteed rights to search, browse, and view all contents in the AYLS website.

Authorship

There is no single authorship of this data, nor can clear lines always be drawn between knowledges of participants, researchers, and contributors. Rather, the instruments of the AYLS, its findings, the AYLS research team's analysis and website, contributions from collaborators, and knowledges of participants were assembled by the AYLS research team.

Acknowledgment

We ask all information sourced from the AYLS be acknowledged by the USER and cited appropriately. Bibliographic citations should conform to those outlined below.

Commercial Potential

No part of the AYLS may be distributed for any commercial purpose, nor with the intent that the data be used in any commercial enterprise.

Limitation of Liability

Although every reasonable effort has been made to check sources and verify facts, the AYLS program cannot guarantee that accounts reported in the open literature are complete and accurate. The USER shall not hold the AYLS liable for any loss or damage caused by errors or omissions or resulting from any use, misuse, or alteration of AYLS data.

Multimedia Copyright & Sources

Images and other multimedia files contained in the AYLS are held under copyright to various parties. View the credits and permissions of various media use here. Information on this website draws from literature the AYLS research team has reviewed. This literature is cited in our paper, currently under review. Specific instances of use on the website are documented here.

Termination of Rights

The AYLS research team reserves the right to remove access from any particular IP address or set of IP addresses. In such an event, all USER rights granted in this document are terminated.

Harm and reconciliation

We ask you to consider the potential harm caused by failing to comply with the terms of this agreement. The terms of this agreement are established to respect the contexts of these knowledges, honor the labor of the AYLS Research Team, and work towards a way of being in the world. To manage harm, failure to comply with this agreement may result in loss of access to the AYLS and the forfeiture of USER privileges. In the contexts of commercial use, appropriate legal remedies may be pursued.

Disclaimer

The AYLS research team is engaged in an iterative process to understand and represent Youth Leadership for Development. Because of the nature of qualitative research and the transnational and multi-phase contexts of this study, the AYLS research team makes no claim that the data includes all instances of YLFD. We also make no claim this data is objective. The AYLS team is also not responsible for any factual errors in an identified YLFD initiative's self-description. Questions about content, data, analysis, and process should be directed to the principal investigator.
